In the middle of September 2008, Lough Muckno was the most beautiful location for Castleblayney annual fishing festival. “The Monaghan Pairs Competition”, takes place over six days with one hundred fishermen from the UK taking part. The prize money this year was 20,000 euro and we are delighted that over 5 tons of fish was caught during the festival.  Lough Muckno and it’s surrounding lakes, are some of the best fishing lakes in all of Ireland, and indeed Europe.
Businesses in and around Castleblayney, especially bed and breakfasts, hotels, restaurants and takeaways, benefit from this festival and are always delighted to welcome the fishermen for the Monaghan Pairs.
